Singapore and PRs resident outside of Singapore may soon be able to appoint their Donees by way of the digitally executed Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) without having to make the return journey home.
Currently only hard copies of LPAs are accepted for registration with the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG).
The proposed expansion of electronic transactions law (Electronic Transactions (Amendment) Bill 1/2021) aims to provide certainty for digital transactions. Hopefully a swift passing of the Amendment Bill will be followed by an equally swift roll out of a framework for e-government services, and thereby enable the OPG to accept registration of Digital LPAs.
